Clone pet sold ($50,000)

Courtesy of MSNBC: A woman bought a clone of her deceased cat for $50,000 from a cloning firm. The article is ripe with dissension, not all from folks opposed to cloning, some folks are upset that she spent the money.

The best part of the story (IMO) is the name of the cloning firm: “Genetic Savings and Clone”.

BloodRayne 2

BloodRayne 2Better, bloodier, sexier; that's BloodRayne 2. Picking up the story in modern day, our heroine is stalking the last of her kin--descendants of Kagan--allied with the Brimstone Society.

BloodRayne is more of a fighting game, with minimal RPG ingredients. You use combos to kick, stab, shoot, and enviscerate your foes. When you run low on health you can feed on enemy blood. In addition to the ever-present blades, Rayne also sports a grapple to snare foes, topple objects, and more. A decent backstory, engaging levels (excluding the obvious heroine scenery), and great gameplay round out the game. The new version has a ton of new moves for Rayne, special fatality combos, new weapons, and plenty of over-the-top, sexy attitude from our favorite 1/2 vamp. The website (see links) includes sample media and an extended demo for the PC version.

Pick this one up!

$ymantec

Intereting news/gripes about “Norton”/Symantec AV and security products. (see links below) Of course I find this information after recently updating my subscription for NAV 2002.

Moblogs go the route of all cameras

Moblogs - Mobile Blogs. Camera phone users post pictures from their life with comments from themselves and others.

We've all read articles about camera phone users taking illicit pictures with their phones, now there's moblogs to highlight said photos.

Most of these subjects look rather willing--no candid locker room shots here.

Download and Play 'Anarchy Online' for Free

Between now and January 15th, 2005 you can download “Anarchy Online” and play the MMORPG for free. The deal has a few conditions, but I've heard the game is very good--definitely worth a free look.

Deal here.

TV: Battlestar Galactica series

Battlestar Galactica starts its new run January 14th (2005) on The Scifi Channel. Those that missed the original miniseries can catch it starting on January 5th.

Movie: White Noise

Another trailer from last week--Michael Keaton in a spook story about our dearly departed (and something evil) speaking to us from the other side via white noise.

Movie: Constantine

Saw a preview for this movie last week. I dig on the modern meets angels and demons storyline--anyone who also likes the genre should check out The Prophecy with Christopher Walkin.

Here's the summary from the Apple Trailer Website:

Based on the DC-Vertigo comic book “Hellblazer”, Renegade occultist John Constantine, who has literally been to hell and back, teams up with skeptical policewoman Angela Dodson to solve the mysterious suicide of her twin sister. Their investigation takes them through the world of demons and angels that exist beneath contemporary Los Angeles.

Doom Movie Not Doom Enough?

Seems there's a lot of flack over how accurate to the game the new Doom movie will be. HomeLAN Fed has reprinted an open letter from Dave Callaham, the movie's screenwriter, about the issue.

Did anyone really think it would mirror the game? Come on folks, what movie, based on a game, has ever been true to the source?

New HTPC Cases from SilverStone

As reported by eHomeUpgrade, the Silverstone LC11 Micro ATX Enclosure looks like the perfect enclosure to fit into a home theater rack.

It's on my list for the next HTPC project.

Adware Cannibalism

ZDNet reports that adware companies are turning on each other. If only such actions would drive them to extinction. Perhaps we could invite the spammers into the carnage too.

Japanese "Lap" Pillow

The latest from Japanese toy company Trane Co., Ltd...

When I first read “lap pillow” I thought about my “lap tray”, the thing my laptop is resting on right now. Little did I know it was a pillow in the shape of a lap...and a shapely one at that.

Story originally seen on MSN but was carried almost everywhere.

The Return of ASCII Art

Remember the early days of computers when pinups were printed in ASCII text?

Admittedly, some of the art back then was pretty good, but most of it was like watching scrambled pr0n in a hotel room. (Oh come on, you know what I'm talking about! ;) ) However, the old ASCII art can not compete with the work at romanm.ch. This site has a bunch of movie clips redone in ASCII art. Very impressive!

A "Novel Disposable Circumcision Device"

When I first read of this site it was billed as a “home circumcision kit” and I was a little, er, uncomfortable at the thought. Since then I've seen that the device is meant for “medical professionals”. Thank god!

SmartKlamp
Still, the site has some real gems in its text. Here's a small sampling:

The Fine Art of Male Circumcision
(I'd hope it's a very fine art!)

parents/end users

The SmartKlamp® is a new, one time use only...

...the SmartKlamp® provides for full protection of the penis during the circumcision, and gives a cosmetically predictable result...

...comes in various sizes, from newborn (10mm) to adult...

All the male readers can now uncross your legs, this post is finished. :)

CD Organizers

I always thought the KDS CD organizer (below, left) was a cool idea--a USB device that stored up to 75 CDs that you could catalog and access via a media library. No more hide-and-seek with that one CD you can never find.

The Bestrade Storage DC300 (above, right--image links to site) does it several times better--more storage (100), and daisy-link/stacking unit capabilities. Tiger Direct has the Bestrade unit on sale until the end of the year ('04).

Fly Like an Eagle

Very cool segment on AnimalPlanet.com: "Soar with Tilly the golden eagle..."

The short story is that some scientists strapped a wireless cam to an eagle and let her loose to study flight dynamics. Very cool footage--especially the 'dogfight' clip.

"Escape From Neverland" Game

Pedophilia isn't funny, but Jacko's exploits never cease to be. Enter the game from Laser Plus, "Escape From Neverland." (Details too seedy to publish here...follow the link!)

Note: The site is really busy due to all the publicity. If you can't get it to load, try this site. (same principle, but different game--not as good as Laser Plus version)

Funniest Damn Thing

...I've seen or read in a while. The following conversation took place on a Windows help Usenet group:

> My GF has a new computer with windows XP.
> I know next to nothing about Windows so what
> programs exist to compress files as
> stock on XP?

FORMAT

Note, however, that it is lossy. ;-)
