This summer Netflix will begin to offer streaming content to its customers. Those users that don't want to wait the one day for shipping the CD can order a movie from the Netflix site and "begin watching the movie within 15 seconds of clicking the 'play' button." Available bandwidth, of course, will be an issue with the quality of the service. However, with most residential broadband exceeding 3Mbs, the quality should be acceptable for most consumers.
(I question how many consumers will want to want to watch movies on their computers instead of their home cinema setups, or how many have a suitable computer media center setup...)
I won't regurgitate the rest of the details here, go visit Ars Technica.
